Favorite Video: Musicless Musicvideo – Elvis Presley, Blue Suede Shoes
Brush With Fame: Mickey Rooney once sat backstage just to listen to me. When I finished playing, Rooney’s bass player offered me a job in Vegas.
Favorite Concert: 2010 – an obscure 83yo retired concert pianist sat down and played random piano concertos off the top of his head for 2 to 3 hours for around 30 to 40 of us at IPFW. The intimate setting and his effortless virtuosity and artistry was simply surreal. I never got his name.
Why This Style of Music? 1986 … I was headed down the hall at the BGSU Music Building when some kid (Shawn Nichols) handed me a cassette tape of Chet Baker. Let’s just say my musical-direction was changed “overnight” … literally.
Why I Love This Music? Great Melody, Clear Words, Romantic and Melancholy. This music is really just about “the music”. Enticing & understandable lyrics and melody. In addition, composers toiled to “discover” hidden-gem-like harmonic-structures to support these melodies, as if they were sifting for gold in a riverbed. It always fascinates me how many young people stop and listen – as they rarely get a chance to experience these intricate & beautiful melodies that once captivated their age group.
Husband of Caren, who is clearly the finest speech therapist in the state of Ohio. Check out her Facebook page here.
Father of Carissa, Elissa, and Frosty. Sadly, Frosty melted just after this picture was taken.
He was truly a jolly happy soul, even without a corn cob pipe.
After getting my Mr. T Starter Kit, the haircut seemed like the natural thing to do.
I promise I’ll never play an event in this attire.
Always ready to play. While staying at a B&B for our Anniversary, other guests wanted to hear me play … so I just grab my stuff out of the car.
Just a some highlights of the 100’s of musical activities I’ve done over the years.
I played keys & vocals in the late 90’s. Diamondback was the band to beat & the opening act for most acts passing through the area. Several of these guys got real jobs playing with stars in Nashville.
Kinda one of those opportunities of a lifetime. I reluctantly agreed to play Warbucks, only if my daughter could just have a small part … then she won the lead role.
Upon entering Hollywood Studios at Disney World, anyone walking in could try out. They pick 9 people for the day, and you spend all day preparing for the shows. Total blast. I sang “It’s A Wonderful World”.
